Pocket Aces Racing LLC is very happy to officially introduce the newest addition to our stable … a yearling filly by Temple City out of It Takes Two, by More Than Ready.
Temple City is a solid young sire with just six relatively small crops of racing age. He is the top son of Dynaformer currently standing at stud. He has been a particularly successful turf sire with six Graded Stakes winners including Miss Temple City, Jicamon, Temple Maya, Annals of Time and current 2YO Archaggelos.
It Takes Two was a winner at three and her first foal has won four races already in 2017. She is by More Than Ready who is proving to be a very promising broodmare sire. More Than Ready’s offspring are extremely versatile running on dirt, turf, short or long.
Like several of our successful, yet inexpensive, purchases over the years we bought this filly in the back ring. By “in the back ring” we mean that Marc did not see her for the first time back in the barns but in the back, walking ring shortly before she sold. It’s a quicker style of buying where Marc must rely on his instincts a little more but we purchased the likes of Pure Victory ($13,000 purchase; Keeneland allowance winner and $80,000+ earner) and Storm Temple Pilot ($10,000 purchase; Churchill Downs allowance winner and $80,000 earner-also by Temple City) in the same way. By the end of the sale so many horses are selling so fast that it becomes extremely difficult to see the horses back at the barn so Marc just lets the horses come to him. When he first saw this Temple City filly circling the very back ring it was her walk and demeanor that first caught his eye. The sales, and especially the sales rings, can be quite an intimidating place for many young horses. You’ll see some of them kick, rear, lather up, etc. and this is something we look for in every horse we purchase when they go to the sales ring as it may provide some insight to how they will handle stress in the future. As for this filly, she was alert but not agitated in any way, she really seemed like an old pro as she kept walking. Marc liked her walk so much that he decided to pull her to the side and inspect her physique. She was correct through her forelimbs, tracked well, and had great balance. She is already a good-sized filly with a very racy body type. We feel extremely fortunate to have gotten her for the price we paid as we are confident she could have brought $35,000-$40,000 had she been even one day earlier in the sale.
